POD Transylvania 22nd-28th May 2023

Painting the Wild Flowers of Transylvania

Transylvania in central Romania holds some of the most beautiful wildflower environments in Europe. Having visited and studied these as part of the Transylvania Florilegium and I'm excited to be returning to this special part of the world to teach at POD Transylvania in 2023, just as spring blossoms into summer at the end of May when the wildflower meadows are starting to peak.

With only 5 spaces this course this will be an immersive experience with personal, tailored tuition throughout.

We will stay in the small town of Copsa Mare in the former town hall, now converted by our hosts James and Rachel de Candole, to provide comfortable accommodation where we will be well looked after with local food and wine, allowing us to focus our energies on enjoying our studies and absorbing the nature around us.

Our hosts will provide excellent botanical knowledge as well as a deep understanding of the local area, meaning we will have the best introduction possible to the local flora.

Through this we can recreate the experience of painting for a florilegium project, focusing on botanical accuracy, clarity of detail and bringing balance, harmony and beauty to our compositions.

We will also be able to take inspiration from a copy of the incredible Transylvania Florilegium owned by Rachel and James. This will be a rare chance to study this amazing collection of work.

Most suitable for improvers but other levels can be catered for, please contact me for details. The course aims to hone your skills of botanical depiction through understanding the plants and environments they come from in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where you can truly experience Transylvania.

Food, drink, accommodation, tuition and airport transfers are all included in the trip cost of EUR 1900.
