Botanical Art Beginners' Weekend
4th and 5th July (Sat/Sun) 10am-4pm
at the Sawpit Studio, Heligan, Cornwall
£120, £50 deposit to book a place. Click here for T&Cs.
Join me for a two-day taster in botanical drawing and watercolour at the beautiful Sawpit Studio, tucked away in a private area of Heligan Gardens.
The weekend will be a fun and informal introduction to this very specialist artform.
For the first day we will concentrate on line drawing and shading using pencil (graphite), with an overview of botanical art and its concepts, aims and techniques along the way. For the second day we will use watercolours to match the colours of our subject, then practise washes to make our subject look three-dimensional on the page, finally using drawing with the brush to refine our finished piece.
Although I hope that everyone will go away with a small piece of work the focus will be on techniques and skills that you can take away and incorporate into your own art. This course will be perfect for absolute beginners who have no prior experience, or for those who may have done other forms of art but are completely new to botanicals.
The Sawpit has a seating are where we can rest at lunchtime but participants will need to bring a packed lunch along with them. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available throughout the day.
The course costs £120 for both days including all materials - you just need to turn up and enjoy yourself!
